The April 2026 update of heavy-duty vehicle charging infrastructure data has been prepared for publication on the European Alternative Fuels Observatory. The dataset focuses on operational recharging locations that meet the AFIR-related 350 kW compliance criterion, providing a clearer view of high-power charging availability for heavy-duty vehicles across Europe. The published data aggregates charging infrastructure by country and by recharging pool type. It distinguishes between locations dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles within mixed-use sites and locations used exclusively by heavy-duty vehicles. This distinction is important as it gives users a more detailed picture of how the market is developing: both through dedicated facilities at broader charging hubs and through fully exclusive HDV charging locations. In total, the April 2026 dataset includes 373 operational locations, 2,405 recharging points, and 1,225 recharging stations across 21 countries. Most of the infrastructure is currently found at mixed-use locations dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles, accounting for 278 locations and 1,838 recharging points. Exclusive heavy-duty vehicle locations account for 95 locations and 567 recharging points. Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, and Belgium are among the countries with the highest number of recharging points in the April dataset. Sweden records the largest recharging points count, followed by the Netherlands and Germany, reflecting the continued expansion of high-power charging infrastructure in key European markets. The publication of this data helps improve transparency on the deployment of heavy-duty vehicle charging infrastructure. It also supports market monitoring, policy assessment, and investment planning at a time when reliable public data is increasingly important for the transition to zero-emission road freight.
