Austria has introduced eMove Austria, a new public digital platform designed to serve as a single point of access for electric mobility information. The initiative reflects Austria’s ambition to simplify access to e-mobility knowledge and support measures, while accelerating progress towards national and EU climate objectives. The platform is operated under the auspices of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) and complements Austria’s broader policy framework for sustainable mobility and decarbonisation of transport. Purpose and target users eMove Austria is conceived as a practical, user-oriented information hub, addressing the needs of multiple stakeholder groups, including: Private citizens considering the switch to electric vehicles, Companies and fleet operators planning electrification strategies, Municipalities and public authorities implementing local e-mobility measures. By consolidating information that was previously dispersed across multiple channels, the platform aims to reduce complexity and decision barriers related to electric mobility. Key features of the platform The eMove Austria platform provides structured access to several core information areas: Funding and incentives: Overview of available national and regional support schemes for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and related services. Electric vehicles: General guidance on passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and other electric vehicle categories, including use cases and benefits. Charging infrastructure: Information on public and private charging options, planning considerations and links to relevant tools and datasets. Practical guidance: Explanatory content addressing common questions on costs, charging, daily use and integration of EVs into mobility routines. The platform is designed to be accessible and continuously updated, ensuring that users can rely on up-to-date and authoritative information. Role within Austria’s e-mobility strategy Austria has been an early mover in promoting electric mobility through financial incentives, infrastructure deployment and awareness-raising measures. eMove Austria strengthens this approach by acting as a digital backbone for policy communication, helping translate national strategies into concrete, actionable information. The platform supports: Greater transparency around public support instruments, Improved uptake of incentives by households and businesses, Stronger coordination between national and local e-mobility initiatives. Relevance in the EU context From a European perspective, eMove Austria aligns with wider EU objectives under the European Green Deal and Regulation (EU) 2023/1804 on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (AFIR). By improving access to information on vehicles and charging, the platform contributes indirectly to: Faster EV adoption, More effective use of public and private charging infrastructure, Increased public acceptance of zero-emission mobility solutions. Outlook As e-mobility markets mature, digital platforms such as eMove Austria play an increasingly important role in bridging the gap between policy, market offerings and end users. Continued development of the platform—potentially including deeper integration with live infrastructure data and mobility services—could further enhance its value for Austria’s transition to climate-neutral transport.
