Infrastructure and Renewable Integration: Portugal’s progress in electric mobility goes hand-in-hand with advancements in charging infrastructure and renewable energy: New charging stations were installed nationwide at a rapid pace, ensuring accessibility for the growing EV fleet. The objective of having 15 thousand charging points by 2025 was nearly met by October that year, when 13,250 of these were available in the country. Renewable energy generation accounted for 68% of all demand in 2025, with 37TWh generated. This sits just below the 71% it accounted for in 2024. Looking Ahead: 2025 continued the momentum from 2024, with registrations for rechargeable cars getting close to 50% of the total. Portugal also destined €17.625.000 for EV subsidies through 2026, including electric vehicles, e-bikes and e-motorcycles, and chargers. 2026 should see further growth in EV adoption as more affordable and varied models arrive in Portugal, though the country still requires collaboration from its public and private sectors to guarantee charging alternatives for the people who lack access to a proprietary parking spot.
