BEV and PHEV Sales by Segment (2025) Passenger Cars Plug-in electric passenger cars (BEV + PHEV) accounted for approximately 61% of all new passenger car registrations in Sweden in 2025. BEV passenger vehicles rose to around 100.000 units, roughly 6% above 2024’s levels, whereas PHEVs stood at around 75.000, some 20% above the year prior. AF Market share of total registrations (M1) Newly registered alternative fuelled (BEV, PHEV, H2, LPG, CNG, LNG) passenger cars as a percentage of the total number of registrations. Light Commercial Vehicles (Vans & Light Trucks) In the light commercial vehicle segment, over 8.000 units were sold, represented approximately 23% of new light commercial vehicle registrations in 2025. Electrification in this segment is dominated by BEVs, with limited PHEV presence. Heavy Trucks Nearly 19% of newly registered heavy trucks in Sweden in 2025 were battery electric, or 391 units, 6% above 2024. Buses Approximately 24% of newly registered buses in Sweden during 2025 were battery electric. The share of plug-in hybrid buses continued to decline. Electric Vehicle Fleet by Segment (End of 2025) Passenger Car Fleet By the end of 2025, Sweden’s plug-in passenger car fleet consisted of approximately:- 414,000 battery electric vehicles (BEV)- 341,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV)- Total plug-in passenger car fleet: ~755,000 vehiclesThis corresponds to roughly 15% of the total passenger car fleet. Light Commercial Vehicle Fleet The electric van fleet continued to expand rapidly in 2025, driven primarily by BEVs, and reaching a total of 36.177 vehicles. Heavy Truck Fleet The electric heavy truck fleet remained small in absolute numbers but grew strongly year-on-year, reaching 1.634 e-trucks. Bus Fleet Electric buses represent a growing share of Sweden’s public transport fleet, particularly in urban areas. The total number of e-Buses in Sweden’s roads reached 2.503 in 2025. Charging network The Public Charging Network has grown rapidly, with 12.989 charging points deployed in 2025 in 2.530 charging stations. This represented a growth of 38% over 2024, reaching a total of 9.108 charging stations with 58.138 points, of which 10.571 have rapid charging available. Public funds via the Climate Leap initiative will be invested in new public charging stations, with 1.5 billion Swedish Krona up to 2028. Expectations for 2026 In 2026, there will be a new subsidy for electric vehicles, of up to 64.800 Swedish Krona for the purchase of leasing of a BEV. This subsidy will be limited to lower-income households, but it is expected that it will nonetheless further increase EV adoption in the country, as it’s this population that mostly cannot purchase a BEV due to higher upfront costs.
