Research report on fire safety aspects and technical requirements for EV charging in parking garage environments, including risk assessment and design guidelines.

The "Rural EV Toolkit Version 2" released in May 2023 by the U.S. Department of Transportation provides comprehensive guidance for planning and funding rural electric mobility infrastructure. It covers the basics of electric mobility, including types of electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure. The toolkit addresses benefits and implementation challenges of rural electrification, explores partnership opportunities, and outlines principles for planning and implementing EV infrastructure. It also provides an extensive overview of funding and financing options, federal programs, and additional resources for successful project execution.

This document, prepared by the Sustainable Transport Forum (STF) under the leadership of the European Commission and supported by a group of European organisations, highlights key challenges and best practices related to the deployment of BEVs in covered parking areas. It also provides a set of recommendations for public authorities and private stakeholders to facilitate the adoption of BEVs in covered parking lots.

This publication is a report by the Sustainable Transport Forum (STF), the European Commission´s expert group on alternative fuels infrastructure. The report was developed by the STF sub-group on public authorities with the assistance of ChargeUp Europe – the association at the EU level representing the EV charging industry which works towards the rapid deployment of charging infrastructure across Europe.

This document is the primary deliverable of the Sustainable Transport Forum's Sub-Group 3, that focuses on the best practices of public authorities in facilitating the deployment of recharging infrastructure. Task force 3 (TF3) within Sub-Group 3 is entrusted with providing recommendations aimed at aiding public authorities in supporting the expansion of recharging infrastructure tailored for specialised and captive fleets.

The following guidelines are primarily aimed for public authorities and intend to provide recommendations and examples of good practices that these authorities can consider when setting up tenders for publicly accessible EV recharging infrastructure.
