Webinar Recording: Sustainable Transport Forum Guidance for AFIR Implementation

STF Webinar

On 26 June 2025, POLIS hosted a high-level webinar introducing new guidelines developed by the Sustainable Transport Forum – Public Authorities subgroup (STF-PA). These resources are designed to support local, regional, and national authorities in meeting the targets of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR – Regulation (EU) 2023/1804).

With increasing responsibilities for public bodies in the deployment of EV charging infrastructure, the STF-PA has published three key documents:

  • Guidelines for Tender Procedures: Supporting authorities in procuring public recharging infrastructure with transparent, strategic, and grid-aligned tenders.
  • Fire Safety Guidance: Focused on risk mitigation for EV charging in covered car parks, offering practical design and emergency planning measures.
  • Recommendations for Captive and Specialised Fleets: Tailored advice for fleet operators such as municipalities and delivery services, ensuring operational feasibility of fleet electrification.

A preview of upcoming guidance on the accessibility of EV recharging infrastructure was also shared during the session.

Speakers included representatives from DG MOVE, POLIS, GreenWay, and E-mobility Europe, who highlighted the importance of coordination, capacity building, and policy alignment to ensure a fair and effective AFIR implementation across the EU.

The webinar reinforced the role of public authorities as enablers of sustainable mobility and provided actionable knowledge to support their transition planning.

📘 The guidelines are available on EAFO under Policy Recommendations.
